Personally, I love John Mayer. Some of his pop-acoustic stuff isn't for me, but he is an extremely talented guitar player. Many of his songs, such as Neon and Why Georgia, are very difficult to play correctly on the guitar (trust me I've tried it takes a while to get them down.) And alot of his electric guitar and blues work is extremely well done. This video is Slow Dancing in A Burning Room. It's a beautifully written song, with thoughtful lyrics and this version has an incredible guitar solo.
Overall, I do think that John Mayer is bringing the blues to the mainstream. You pay for a John Mayer ticket, and he plays Why Georgia, 3x5, Daughters, Waitin' on the World to Change, etc., but he also throws in some blues stuff nowadays. He's honestly one of the most talented current pop-music artist.
Slow Dancing in a Burning Room can be found on his latest album Contiuum. By far John's best work. John seems to show his true self in this album and the songs seem much more soulful than his previous efforts.
